Bang Kra Chao Escapade

Exploring Bang Krachao by Bike: A Day in Bangkok’s Green Lung

During our recent trip to Bangkok, we decided to escape the city buzz and head to Bang Krachao, often called the “Green Lung of Bangkok.” Just a short boat ride across the Chao Phraya River, this lush, peaceful island gave us a completely different experience of Thailand’s capital—and renting a bike turned out to be the best decision we made.

🏝️ First Impressions

As soon as we arrived, the atmosphere changed. Gone were the traffic jams and skyscrapers—in their place were quiet roads, tall trees, and the sound of birds chirping. It’s hard to believe this green paradise exists so close to the heart of the city.

 Highlights of Our Day

Sri Nakhon Khuean Khan Park

We cycled through this beautiful urban forest park, full of lakes, wooden bridges, and watchtowers. It was peaceful, with only the sound of rustling leaves and distant birds. We stopped to rest and take photos—it’s a must-visit for anyone coming to Bang Krachao.

Local Life & Hidden Gems

Along the way, we passed small houses, smiling locals, and stalls selling fresh fruit and herbal drinks. One of the best parts of biking is how easy it is to stop whenever something catches your eye.

Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market

Since we visited on the weekend, we explored this community-run market full of tasty street food, handmade crafts, and local products. We grabbed some grilled chicken, sticky rice, and coconut ice smoothie—delicious and budget-friendly.

A Refreshing Stop at Ozone Café

After cycling through shaded trails and exploring the peaceful greenery, we made a well-deserved stop at Ozone Café—a stylish riverside spot that blends beautifully with the natural surroundings.

The café has a laid-back, eco-conscious vibe with lots of outdoor seating, wooden decks, and glass walls that let you feel immersed in the jungle without leaving the comfort of your iced latte.

 What We Loved:

  • Iced coffee and herbal drinks – We tried their signature iced espresso and a refreshing butterfly pea tea. Perfect for cooling down after cycling.

  • Scenic views – Sitting by the water, surrounded by lush plants and birdsong, made it one of the most peaceful coffee breaks we’ve ever had.

What We Loved about our trip

  • Peace and quiet – It was the perfect break from Bangkok’s busy streets.

  • Friendly locals – Everyone we met was welcoming, especially when we looked a little lost.

  • Nature everywhere – Birds, butterflies, canals, and gardens surrounded us the whole time.

🗺️ Getting There

We took a short boat ride from the Khlong Toei Pier to reach the island. It was cheap (just 10–20 baht) and part of the fun. Once you land, bike rental shops are right nearby.

🌤️ Tips for Visiting

  • Bring sunscreen and mosquito repellent.

  • Carry water (though there are places to buy drinks along the way).

  • Wear comfy clothes for cycling.

  • Visit on the weekend if you want to experience the floating market.

💚 Final Thoughts

Exploring Bang Krachao by bike was one of the highlights of our trip to Bangkok. It felt like we discovered a secret world, untouched by time and far removed from the city’s chaos. Whether you're into cycling, nature, food, or photography, this green escape is absolutely worth a visit.

So next time you're in Bangkok, grab a bike and ride through the lungs of the city. You’ll leave with tired legs—but a full heart.
